About CymaVis
CymaVis is an interactive web application dedicated to making the invisible world of sound visible. Through physics-based simulations running entirely in your browser, CymaVis lets you explore cymatics — the science of visualizing sound through vibration patterns.
Our Mission
We believe that understanding physics should be accessible and engaging. CymaVis transforms abstract wave mechanics concepts into beautiful, interactive visual experiences. Whether you are a student learning about waves, a teacher looking for demonstration tools, or simply curious about the hidden geometry of sound, CymaVis provides a hands-on way to explore.
What We Offer
- Chladni Plate Simulator: Watch thousands of virtual particles settle into geometric patterns, driven by real audio from your microphone or uploaded files.
- 3D Water Surface: See sound waves ripple across a three-dimensional water surface with realistic lighting and shading.
- Educational Content: In-depth articles about cymatics history, wave physics, and real-world applications.
- Pattern Gallery: Pre-configured patterns across different modes and frequencies to explore.
Technology
CymaVis uses the actual mathematical equations that describe vibrating plates and membranes. Our Chladni patterns are based on the classical equation sin(mπx/L) × sin(nπy/W), where the mode numbers m and n change with frequency. The 3D water visualization uses WebGL shaders for real-time wave superposition rendering.
All audio processing happens locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. No audio data is ever sent to our servers. Your microphone input and uploaded files remain completely private.
